This June, I will be releasing a novel for adults (ages 18+) entitled Where North Meets South. It’s a modern retelling of Elizabeth Gaskell’s timeless classic North and South.
Think Industrial Revolution meets Pride and Prejudice meets modern day. She’s from London, England and he’s from the American South.
Sounds fun, right?
If you’ve never read Elizabeth Gaskell’s North and South, no worries. You can read and enjoy my novel without it.
But I promise Elizabeth Gaskell is worth your time (and her writing is so much better than mine). You’d be missing out if you didn’t at least try to watch the BBC four part miniseries. It’s beautiful, stunning, and captures the heart of the original story.
Gaskell wrote about the cultural and economic issues of the Industrial Revolution in England during the 1850s. She explored many sides of the human experience of her times. I thought her questions of right and wrong, culture clash, and growing up to be more relevant than ever.
I wanted to write this book because Gaskell deserves an introduction to new and young audiences. Where North Meets South is funny and light, while also tackling harsh reality and difficult truths. It’s not a squeaky clean romance, nor is it a sleezy roll in the gutter.
It’s real.
It’s a story about love, romance, and finding a place to call home. With a healthy dash of humor. (Because if we aren’t laughing at our own human insanity, what are we even doing?)
The book releases on Friday, June 13th, and I cannot wait to share it with you all. I’m super proud of it, and I think you all will love it.
I loved writing it.
